keynote at Spark + AI Summit Europe 2019

Energy wastage by residential buildings is a significant contributor to total worldwide energy consumption. Quby, an Amsterdam based technology company, offers solutions to empower homeowners to stay in control of their electricity, gas and water usage. Using Europe’s largest energy dataset, consisting of petabytes of IoT data, the company has developed AI powered products that are used by hundreds of thousands of users on a daily basis. In this talk Stephen describes Quby’s approach, explores the challenges of scaling data products and explains the empowering role of unified analytics and the Databricks platform towards the data, the technology and the organization itself.

HUB & Spoken Podcast

In this episode, Jason Foster talks to Stephen Galsworthy, Head of Data at TomTom, a leading provider of mapping and location technology. They discuss the gradual integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into data products to create a better user experience, how TomTom navigated the shift from hardware to software and AI, and the challenges associated with integrating AI with data. Stephen also shares his brilliant journey in data & analytics, his extensive experience leading data science teams since 2011 and how to align a data team depending on the maturity of the business.

THE IOT Podcast

I joined Tom WHITE on the The IoT Podcast to talk about all things Data Science,AI and Internet of Things. And, of course, killer robots… 🤖 🤣

We covered:

·     How to use Data Science and AI to extract additional value from IoT hardware
·     My advice for an IoT organisation that wants to successfully use AI.
·     What I expect we’ll see in the near future.

MLOps.community podcast interview

I had a great time discussing MLOps from a leadership perspective with Demetrios Brinkmann and Vishnu Rachakonda on the MLOps Community Podcast. I’m a keen supporter of this community where learnings and discoveries are shared about MLOps and enterprise-grade AI.

We touched upon how getting value from data science and AI is often an organizational rather than a technology problem. I shared some successful techniques to breaking down these barriers including:
·     Investing in people through targeted AI education
·     Gaining, and maintaining, executive buy-in
·     Building momentum through internal and external communication
·     Prioritization of data topics and use cases
·     Leveraging technology platforms

“This was an uplifting episode, because we didn’t just hear why MLOps is hard; we heard what the benefits are when a company can get it right!”

Vishnu Rachakonda

TALKing new energy podcast – Energy insights: where’s the commercial value?

Energy insights – of which demand disaggregation and non intrusive load monitoring are a subset – are being offered by an increasing number of energy retailers across Europe. But where is the value in energy insights for these energy retailers? In this episode, host Jon Slowe explores this question with Gilles Corby, previously energy insights product manager at British Gas, and Stephen Galsworthy, Chief Digital Officer at Quby, together with Delta-EE expert David Trevithick.
